Well it wasn't quite Summer but the heat was
happening in New Orleans. I wouldn't call the
Usenix Summer Meet a hot event but that's why I
was there ... Sure ... And the Fahrenheit never got out of the
90s and the heat index, whatever that is, climbed well over 110.
In any case it was pretty darned hot. I fail to comprehend all
the deep frying that was going on, tho the Aft Oyster Bar seemed
to have the right idea.
The journey got off to a great start
with thunderstorms and airport closures back in New Jersey, and a
corporate travel service that failed on the limo reservation ...
But the substitute limo arrived in plenty of time and drove where
no man should and I finally got in the air - after more than a
little traffic at the airport ... We didn't do much damage to
that truck and the plane that backed into the other one got off
with a caution and a ten minute penalty.
Well there was lotsa old and historic stuff but I won't really attempt to annotate these pics, I really wasn't paying attention. This is probably Jackson Square and the Cathedral and all of some importance to the Union. It was close to the Voodoo Bar and not too far from Old Man River.
I spent most of my time in the French Quarter. It is pretty sweet and nicely preserved. It reminded me a bit of Paris but it was far too clean ... It did, however, have nearly as many American tourists. But I'll save Bourbon Street for the next page.
Here we have some more old and historic stuff that shows the place has been full of rich and poor people for over 200 years now, some of them Spanish and some of them gardeners.
