Mark V. Shaney 's sermon based on Biblical verses about fish.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the air, and over all the men that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are upon the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish gate, and the two fishes, and gave to his disciples to them that were with him, at the fish of the midst of thy rivers to stick unto thy scales, and I will send for many hunters, and they stood still in the purposes thereof, all that make sluices and ponds for fish.
Wherefore, when I called, was there no man? when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, We have no more but five loaves, and the two fishes, and gave to the multitude.
Notwithstanding, lest we should go and see. And when he had taken the five loaves, and gave to the beasts of the wall: he spake also of beasts, another of fishes, and gave to the fowls of the field, and with the fowls of the air, and over every creeping thing that moveth upon the earth, and all that were set down; and likewise of the fish that is a father, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
And they said, Seven, and a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the heaven, and the bars thereof. And from above the fish of the fishes. If a son shall ask bread of any thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers a wilderness: their fish shall be a very great height, and put captains of war in all the earth, and upon every fowl of the fragments, and of fowl, and of fishes. Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. And he commanded the multitude of fishes. Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter saith unto them, Come ye after me, and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the LORD, that there shall be a place to spread forth nets; their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for thirst. Behold, I will make you to become fishers of men.
He saith unto them, Come ye after me, and I will put hooks in thy jaws, and I will bring thee up out of the midst of thy rivers to stick unto thy scales. And I will consume man and beast; I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the field and to the sea, and over the fish gate, and above the fish gate did the sons of Hassenaah build, who also laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and set up the fish that is in the waters beneath the earth: And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. He saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
And the fear of you shall be the noise of a broiled fish, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth. And the fish which ye have now caught. Simon Peter saith unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and upon every beast of the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel, and raised it up a very great multitude of fishes. Now after this he built a wall without the city of David, on the grass, and took the seven loaves and the onions, and the fowls of the heaven, and the leeks, and the disciples to the disciples to set before the multitude. Notwithstanding, lest we should go and see. And when he had taken the five loaves and the tower of ivory; thine eyes like the fishpools in Heshbon, by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the brooks shall lament, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the heaven, and blessed, and brake, and gave thanks, and brake them, and God said unto them, I go a fishing. And the fish of thy rivers shall stick unto thy scales. And I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD. And it shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks.
Now the LORD had prepared a great crashing from the hills. And Jesus, walking by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of the earth, and it vomited out Jonah upon the earth. And the LORD his God out of the holes of the heaven, and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, he blessed, and commanded to set before the multitude. Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fowl of the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes which they had taken: But he said unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and buy meat for all this people. Then he took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the multitude.
Amen.
